When I was a camper, camp counselor and dorm resident I was thrilled to hear that the mail had been distributed. I checked my tracethemitten mailbox for the first time in about a week and I had postcard from my virtual trip, so you get to see them too. It is always great getting mail.

This is such a beautiful stretch. Flat at Seligman and they used it as a switching station for the train cars.
95 degrees with SW wind at 10. The humidity is at 16%. Elevation at 5242' I finally made it. Ash Fork was not named for a railroad person, but it was named by one. There are many ash trees there. 92 degrees, West wind at 15 mph, 21% humidity. 78 degrees today at this elevation feels very good. Low tonight 60. Wind is from the west at 13 mph. How naive I was. I thought the idea of such a promotion to draw attention to Route 66 was developed during my lifetime. Most ideas have been around for a while. The look in this area is different with the green of the pine. The air feels great. Bellemont claims to be the highest settlement on Route 66 at 7132'. You will find a Harley dealership and RV business, which is good to know when you are on the road. The Adventure Cycling Association maps will identify the bike shops and places to find WIFI. adventurecycling.org 81 degrees with a SW wind at 6 and 28% humidity. There are over 120,000 people in the metro area. The elevation is around 7000' . Northern Arizona University is there. The Grand Canyon is not too far. Sedona is 30 miles away. This is the San Francisco range and the Ponderosa pine forest is the largest in the US. Skiing is a draw and I bet there is mountain biking too. Athletes use this area for altitude training. Seventy and rain during the ride. Rain is not bad because I can cover with rain gear. When there is thunder, I head for cover. The headwind also messes with the glasses and sometimes foggy lens. Rainy days can be a good time to do a rest day. If you are in a city you can do some sight seeing. I am ahead of schedule and I do not need to be in a hurry. |
