I appreciate the cooler temps and it is nice to see towns with people. 82 degrees, NE wind at 9 mph and that means a tailwind! The humidity 8%.. Gradual climb through the day from 2175' to 2430'.

There really was a twenty mule team pulling the borax wagons. An empty wagon weighed 7800 pounds and filled with 14 tons of borax. The wheels were 8' wide to handle the soft ground. Water wagons were needed to survive the desert. 20 tons was the total pulled by those strong mules. Wow! A recreated mining town. 3/4 buildings are fixed up originals. A nice way of feeling what it was like in the day.
Got a break in the heat today. 89 degrees. The wind was tougher at times from the NE at 20 mph , but at times it was like a tailwind. 7% humidity.
Another super hot day with 115 degrees, North wind at 9, 6% humidity This area became part of the US after the Mexican-American War 1846-48. Another heat advisory day. High to 115 degrees. South wind at 7 and humidity of 7%. I got an early start. Mining occurred in the areas south of town with gold, silver and lead deposits. The Mojave is familiar name of a desert in the US, but I have never been there and now I search some info. I know that it is hot! I daily remind myself that I would be hot anywhere. In the woodlands of Michigan it is easy to find shady routes. I think that shade will be hard to find in the desert days. In Michigan it is cooling at nights here, but the desert it looks like the nighttime low will be in the 80s. |
