Along the southern edge of the UP

Each day brought a wonderful ride and new areas to explore.   I learned more about the economy and history.  It is easy to see why people love this area.

Manisteque is is a natural harbor and now serves many vacationers. The Manistique River comes through town.  The name was originally spelled Monistique  and misspelled on the city charter.  Oops...now this is how we know the town.

Oh, was it windy!

In Indian Lake State Park has a great spot to visit, Big Spring. You may also see the name Kitch-iti-Kipi for this spot. It is the biggest spring in Michigan. The water is 40' deep and very clear. The observation platform gives a good view.

There are many nice place to stop and enjoy the water , sky and forest. The clouds are one of the beautiful parts of a Michigan scene.

Cars are the king now, but at one time lumber was king. Lumbering is still big, but not like it was 140 years ago.

We are the Great Lake State and these lakes provide great beaches and vacation homes.
