I made the decision to use my REI dividend and 20% off to order the Brooks Flyer saddle. I save shipping charges on this by sending it to the store.
I could hardly wait to attach it to a bike. It was dark, so I decided on the bike on the magturbo trainer. I have read by some thst the Brooks lesther can take hundreds of miles to feel comfortable. My initial plan was to keep the seat on that inside bike for awhile. The first ride felt very comfortable, bit it was only for 20 minutes.
The next day was warm and no chance of rain. I was really wanting to try the seat. I will use this seat on my touring bike.
I won't elaborate now, but the seat exchange was harder than I expected. I will not continue to do frequent changes.
My ride for the day was to ride the subdivision .
After three rides and 75 miles in the saddle and it feels great. It was good from the start. I had read from reviews that it was comfortable fight away. I strongly recommend this saddle!
To I went out on my touring bike to ride the Macomb Orchard Trail. It was a beautiful day with sun, 70 degrees and a light wind. I had a couple of hours and I was in the mood. It is an 8 mile ride through the township to reach the trail.
I felt good right from the start. My tour bike has a cycle computer and this motivated me because I could see that I was riding faster than normal. This was just the second ride with this bike this calendar year. I really do not know my condition after the winter training.
I did not predetermine where I would turn around.. I would just see how I feel. When I got to the 5 mile mark on the trail and saw that I had be gone a little over an hour going about 12,5 mph. I was feeling good and thought I had plenty in the tank, but I knew that I would end up going about 10 miles further than any previous ride this year.
The rest of the ride felt great even hitting the wind more. Both halves were consistence and I always strive for that. I moved from the big chain ring to the middle and spun at a higher RPM the last 3 miles. When I got off the bike at home I could really feel my legs walking and that is why I say, " I will be sore."
This reminds me that I am not ready to head out the door on a big tour. I need to build up my weekly mileage gradually. They suggest increase by no more than 10% to reduce the possibility of injury.
I have always loved to read or watch tales of trip, voyage, exploration, adventure and survival challenges. Today I happened upon a DVD Tracks and I could read on the jacket that this was about a woman's trek across the Australian desert with four camels and her faithful dog. Reading that was enough to hook me.
Once it started I discovered it was based on a true story., so I Googled to find more. True story adventures are always the best. Her story was submitted to National Geographic and the response was so overwhelming that she wrote a bestselling book to expand the story. Now I have a book to read.
What is it about such tales that captivates me? We all have challenges to conquer and we have dreams. At times we feel overwhelmed and journey tales encourage our own perseverance. They can inspire us to do our own challenge which does not have to be a desert walk.
Someone said that it is not the destination that is the best part it is the journey.
I love the commercial currently running on TV for Quaker Oats . The little boy is having in Quaker Oats and dad says, "You'll get it this time." The next scene is on the sidewalk with Mom balancing the boy on his bike. The boy turns to the mom and says, "Don't let me go until I say so." Then off he pedals. ( I was so happy to see that he was wearing a helmet.) What a joy it is to learn to ride a bike. What a great feeling of power and independence.
Two days was beautiful. It was sunny, breezy, but warm at about 70 degrees. The weather reported that it was the warmest day since early November. In early March we yearn for spring days and getting outside. On a day like this I expect to see many outside and there sure were. Besides just the kids in yards and climbing the playscapes, I was passed by many with the shiny new bike with training wheels. What excitement I could see on the faces. They had a smile as big as mine.
Enjoy your ride today.
I took advantage of the little snows that we had this week. A couple of inches was enough to allow me to go out for about an hour each day. These three days were the first time I had gone out this season. i do not feel too guilty because we have not received much snow fall.
Three winters ago I purchased my MSR snowshoes from REI after a fee basics class. I have had a chance to get out a little bit every season. Previously I would cross country skiing, but I could not always count on the consistent snow. With the snowshoes I can get out in less snow. I found that with the shoes I can go when skis are awkward.
The fresh air is great and I prefer it too the inside air. I love the change of scenery. Each day I went to a different location. Ride maps and trip data is at www.twitter.com/tracethemitten .
The first day i went to River Bends Park. The mountain bike trails are well maintained , patrolled, and used even during the winter. It was easy to find my way. I was not familiar with where the path leads. On one I kept heading into a wetter path and I could go on the should until a could see nothing but bog ahead. I suddenly caught a glimpse of something moving deeper into the water. My first thought that it was a dog, but I suspect it was a deer.
The next day I went to Stony Creek Metropark. I was able to find some fitness paths and follow the lake . This day was a bit warmer and the sunny was shining brightly.
Today I took a path outside my door. A community drain goes along out property. The flood plain provide a clear path on a steep slope. The creek provides a winter home for a group of ducks and a group of geese. I thought they went south. They did not like me coming in their area and flew off. There was not other exciting sighting, but I kept looking for a fish in the creek. There was a rainy snow mix and my glasses would not wipe clear. I figure after a while the lens were frozen over.
Each time I was out for an hour and even though I was not using the same muscles but I got a great steady cardio workout. What great times.
