I do now, but I did not for many years. False beliefs: I won't fall. I will catch myself. I am not going that fast. This past week I fell down. I am okay, but it was a scare. I am old and I should not be falling down and tempting fate. I go to the doctor and they always ask, "Have you fallen?" I always say that I do not bounce like I used too. I was going along a two track in the woods. This was not a technical trail and was rated for beginners. There were some ruts from water erosion. There were some areas of loose gravel. There were some damp ground. Out of nowhere I hit a root bang. I think that I hit the root on the left and it threw my front wheel perpendicular to the path. I slid on the damp grass and went down. I was able to extend my arms to land on the palms of my gloved hands. i got up and looked for blood. I could see the bulge in my right bicep. The bruising in the photo came later. No broken bones or scratches. I felt very lucky. I was able to ride and the bike was okay.
Bike accidents happen all to quickly and be prepared. Ride with care.
