This is the third time I have started this post. Hopefully the third time is the charm. This not just a cliche'. You need to stick with something and not give up after one try.
I have done more individual rides than participated in group rides. My personal preference is to go out and ride when I want and can go. I find that my physical limitations of lung capacity and effectiveness makes it hard to keep up with the group. When I cannot keep up I feel defeated. When I can go a pace that allows me to reach my destination I feel success.
It is generally believed that during a training effort you should be able to carry on a conversation. I never could do that doing anything faster than a leisurely walk.
The group rides that I favor are "no drop rides". At these I can talk and enjoy the social aspects.
Group rides go beyond the social they provide a way to improve performance by pushing your limits. You can learn something and meet interesting people.
Group rides occur in your town or the vicinity. They may be sponsored by bike shops or clubs. They may be organized by communities or created by individuals. Do a search and ask around. Enjoy the ride
