Over 20 years ago these stumps became evident. They may be seen at low tide. It is thought that a powerful seismic event caused these forests to be covered by earth and water. Trees of over 100' were completely enveloped. Every so often I will pick up the local paper and read what is happening in the area. This cafe says, "Best cooking on the Oregon Coast." Depoe Bay is the whale watching capital of Oregon. The best time for viewing is March through December. This reserve in the smallest in Oregon at 1.2 square miles. Explorers will find extensive rocky intertidal habitats.
