I recently returned from a week-long tour which involved over 300 hundred miles. I am now home and doing my usual routes and I can feel that my legs are stronger. While pedaling uphill I can see that I go further up before shifting to an easier gear. In reviewing my Strava segments I see that my times are faster. At the end of the ride, I feel better.
I have read in trip journals about the tour riders noticing improved physical capacity as they progress through the first few days of the tour. I have experienced this feeling and I know that it will happen to you. This has been an ah-ha moment for me. I also like to take it easy the first couple of days with lower mileage. It is good to ease in to the longer and tougher ride days. As you prepare for your tour, keep building the base and take a long ride each week. What advice do you have for us?
