This past Saturday I rode a charity ride supporting the local rail trail. The weather reports and radar said that it would rain. As I registered the sun was shining and by the halfway break a few rain drops dotted the pavement and 10 minutes into the return to the start there was a steady rain.
i pulled over and pulled the poncho out of my backpack. i bought this last summer at Walmart (Frooggs Toggs). I was anxious to see how it worked in the rain. I draped the front over the handlebars and I did not need to hold them in place. the rear was on my seat. The side snaps kept the sides closed enough. The rain was steady and lasted for 30 minutes. I would have been soaked without the poncho. I did see many riders who were soaked. The temps remained in the 60s. Spirits were high and the rain did not dampen the joy of the event.
This experience gave me confidence to keep this in my bag because it was more compact than the full rain suit. Try it and you might like it.
