In 40 days of riding I have covered 827 miles. The daily average of miles covered is a little over 20 . I wanted to take it easier today. It is good to let your body rest. Those starting a tour should take easier days and gradually build up to a comfortable amount that you can manage. Rest days are good for you. The amount of ground that I have covered astounds me. I am almost to Oklahoma City. This unique barn was built in 1898 and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. It now is a gift shop, entertainment and space rental. Picture this as the land rush. Arcadia was formed after the first land rush of 1889. It is estimated that there were over 50,000 people rushing to claim land. Over 2 million acres were available.

Today I went through Davenport, Chandler, Warwick, and ended in Wellston. I am at the edge of Oklahoma City. There is a heat wave going on due the consistent number of days 90 degrees or above. Davenport , my first stop today, was named for the postmaster. I remember that being said about other towns that I have gone through. This town was founded in 1906 and where I am from the towns were founded over 100 years before. When were the towns founded where you live? I can still find a quality place to stay in some towns.
I am trying to average 20 miles a day. I did part of the ride during the heat and then I finished after supper in order to beat the heat. The heat wave will continue into next week and I will need to devise a strategy to keep moving along.
A short ride day was part of the plan and it turned out to be good since it was very hot and humid. I looked to ride in the shade and I always took my break in the shade. This is Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa. Sadly it is not open due to Covid-19. I will want to see it on another trip. Waite Phillips was an oil man. Some may remember the oil brand called Phillips 66. As a young Scout, I backpacked in the Scout Ranch, Philmont. This land was donated by Mr. Phillips. The Bristow Historical Museum is also closed. See it next visit. I always am happy to see a restored train station.
My plan for a day is not fully put together when the alarm goes off. I know that there are things of interest to see in Tulsa: the river, museums, gardens, parks. and architecture. I could not see it all and I will see what I can comfortably see at a social distance. The Arkansas River moves through the city and connects down river to the Mississippi. Recently Tulsa has been in the National news. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood_District,_Tulsa This area developed through the first two decades of the 20th century and gains the name"Black Wall Street." In the early twentieth century Tulsa gained the name "Oil Capital of the World." Tulsa is known for the Art Deco construction of building that still can be seen.
