Needles is known for the heat and 108 degrees today did not disappoint me. Tonight's low will be 81 degrees.  Am I kidding you?  7 % humidity and a North wind at 8 mph.

An old post card aerial view of Needles.

They must need to water these frequently.

This is now Needles transportation center.

These peaks were in inspiration for the city name.  I can see how the peaks got the name.

A very nice city park.

I better adjust my watch.

106 degrees, humidity at 15%, wind from SW at 7 mph.

Finishing Arizona, the 7th state of this trip.  Am I worried about the desert?  Yes!  My  camelbak holds 100 oz and I have three 23oz bottles.  I keep a bottle of pop in my pack because sometimes I crave a different taste.  I will fill up at any store to be topped off.

The Colorado river serves as the border and several lakes have been formed .  The river is a vital source of water for over 40 million people.  It drains seven states and with the Rio Grande it are the primary rivers in the southwest US.   The river is over 1450 miles in length.

The train bridge and the car bridge above that get a lot of activity.

Beautiful red colors on shore and inviting water.
Picture
So many enjoy the water for recreation. It would be fun to raft down the river (in the calmer spots).
Picture
Found some well used stretches from the past, but less traffic makes it enjoyable.
Picture
Comforting to see a call box.
Picture
Be in Needles tomorrow.
Picture
Wow! Over 900 miles ahead of schedule.

Yucca, another town that rose and fell with the fortune a main road does for business.

It is now a proving ground for autos. It used to be an airfield for the military.

Ready to move on. The elevation is now 1102' and that feels like home.

Hackberry General Store lived up to its promo. A must see spot.
Picture
The red signs are Burma Shave signs. Do you know about those?
These signs were found along many US highways.  They were started in 1926 and used until  1963.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma-Shave.  They were a favorite of the passengers and helped pass the time looking for the next Burma phrase.  Shave the modern way / No brush / No lather / No rub-in / Big tube 35 cents – Drug stores / Burma-Shave  .  Now we just use use cream from the aerosol can. Those with safety concerns felt that the signs distracted the drivers away from the road.

I love the classic Coca-Cola signs, the real ones not the ones I see in stores.

I think that this is a valid warning. Always better to be overly prepared. I was a Scout "Be Prepared"

101 degrees today. No precipitation expected by there are flash flood warnings. The gully can fill up quickly with turbulent waters. Wind from the SW at 15 mph.  I put my hand on the drop of the bars and put my head down into the wind.  I stop to catch my breath, re-energize and look around.
Picture
I was told not to miss the general store in Kingman. What do you think?
Picture
During my rides I like to look at the skies. Very pretty ride today. The wind kept from getting too hot, but I drank a lot of water.
The town of Hackberry was named after a tree and that seems too obvious.  This town started as a mining town.  The silver mine was started

Hualapai (People of the Tall Pine) have their tribal headquarters in Peach Springs. Does this town name remind you of Radiator Springs in the Disney movie Cars?
