Astoria's grew based on its location and it has some interesting stories.
Read the link above. Very interesting. I was not aware of this. Over 20 years ago these stumps became evident. They may be seen at low tide. It is thought that a powerful seismic event caused these forests to be covered by earth and water. Trees of over 100' were completely enveloped.
Every so often I will pick up the local paper and read what is happening in the area. This cafe says, "Best cooking on the Oregon Coast." Rate the food when you stop.
